Choosing Wrongly
When you are fearful, you have chosen wrongly.
I used to believe that fear was an appropriate response to a hostile, cold world. My safety lay in my self-defense, of which fear was an effective mobilizer.
Or so I thought.
Our emotions are not caused by anything that is happening in the world. Rather, we make our emotions – which are the direct result of a choice in the mind for either the thought system of ego or presence. As we read in the Course:
When you are fearful, you have chosen wrongly. You must change your mind, not your behavior. The correction of fear is your responsibility.
When we choose against the ego, fear is immediately eviscerated. What’s left is the most incredibly peaceful state of joy.
