Holding Grievances

He who has an enemy shall meet him everywhere.
~ Omar Khayyam

Anytime we hold a grudge, we will experience its effects wherever we go. That’s the nature of grievances. It blinds us to the true nature of others, and ourselves.

As A Course in Miracles so poignantly states, “It is as sure that those who hold grievances will forget who they are, as it is certain that those who forgive will remember.” The Course continues with this line: “My grievances hide the light of the world in me.”

The Persian mathematician Omar Khayyam understood the nature of causality. Once we believe that other people or situations are responsible for our unhappiness, we will continually encounter them in our lives.

Love, on the other hand, holds no grievances. From this state of mind we experience exquisite peace.
