I Do Not Know
Teach thy tongue to say ‘I do not know,’ and thou shalt progress.
When I was in college, several of my engineering classes were very difficult (for me). And I painfully recall sitting in lectures with questions in my head.
But I never asked them.
My reasoning went like this: if my question were a good question, a smart one, then someone else would have asked it.
Therefore, it must be a stupid question, and I don’t want to ask it and look like a fool.
So I never asked any questions.
And I was a fool.
I learned that whenever I know that I don’t know something – or when I’m certain I do – that those are the two times I need to either dig deeper for insight or ask others for help.
