Know Thyself
The most difficult thing in life is to know yourself.
Not only is knowing oneself so damn hard, very few truly want to try. We’re fearful of what we might discover.
Two hundred years after Thales of Miletus uttered such a harsh truth, Socrates taught on the Greek aphorism know thyself. The teachings counseled that the way to know God was to know oneself.
It is much easier for us to observe (and judge) others. We think we’re unbiased and fair in these assessments. However, what we see in others is nothing but a projection of what’s within us.
Thus one of the most effective (and easiest) ways to begin knowing oneself is to observe how we respond with others. Especially those people we consider to be our “button pushers”.
The path to self-growth starts with self-awareness.
