No Idle Thoughts

There are no idle thoughts. All thinking produces form at some level.
~ A Course in Miracles

It’s easy to believe that our thoughts are mostly harmless. They’re just thoughts after all. But it’s not true.

As we read in A Course in Miracles, “Every thought you have makes up some segment of the world you see.” In other words, our thoughts create our reality – not the other way around.

There is no objective reality out there impinging on us. We create it all with our thoughts. Similar to our sleeping dreams at night.

That concept is so very difficult to accept, because it places responsibility for experience onto us. But it is also liberating as it means that if we want a different experience, all we need to do is change our thoughts. As the Course goes on to say, “Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly.”

Therefore, it can be very helpful to practice watching our thoughts. And when we catch ourselves choosing the ego – which is true whenever we are judging, whenever we aren’t at peace – then we can gently make a different choice.
