On Human Nature
I often wondered what made one person more honorable than another. Was it their particular philosophy or outlook on life? The teachers and role models they studied under? An innate sense of goodness?
I learned that what makes people integrous and genuinely good has far less to do with their experiences and much more to do with their habits and mindset.
Every one of us has an ego mind filled with yearning, fear, and guilt. And from that source comes all the worldly experiences of desiring – and pursuing – what we call happiness.
When we recognize that our mindset and habits shape not only our character – but also our experience of joy in the world – then life becomes extraordinary.
Observing our mind and carefully watching our thoughts is the gateway to peace.
