On Suffering
Talk about a mind-blowing statement. We’ve been so conditioned to believe pain is caused by something someone did or said, or something going on in the world.
The truth is that we project onto every situation all the meaning it has for us. And if we’re coming from a place of judgment (ie. with our ego), then we will use each encounter as a way to perpetuate lack, separation, and separate interests.
Eckhart Tolle’s insights are incredibly empowering and liberating. He goes on to say, “Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary.” As long as we choose the ego we will experience suffering. But once we understand that we can set it aside and choose the right-mind of presence, we can, in the words of A Course in Miracles, “escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to you.”
