Start Living
Whenever a new productivity book would come out, I would instantly devour it. Whatever practical tips others had mastered, I wanted to learn about them. What tools did they use to get things done? What steps did they take to hone their process?
Surely by studying the expertise of others, I could achieve similar results. Right?
Wrong.
I discovered a curious thing on the path of self-improvement. I was spending far more time studying and learning the habits of others, but very little time actually putting their guidance into my own practices.
I had so much investment in understanding that I was missing out on knowing.
And so it is with many things in our lives.
We look to others who have achieved what we want – hoping that by studying their secrets to success we can achieve likewise.
But at the end of the day, we need to take action.
No one but ourselves can give us the permission we need to live. So, in the wise words of Henry James, “It’s time to start living the life you’ve imagined.”
Go forth and live!
