Unbearable by Circumstance?
Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose.
This from a man who suffered some of the worst atrocities perpetrated by mankind. It isn’t what is going on around us that makes life joyful or painful. It is the meaning we give every situation – which is based on our purpose.
When we are aligned with our ego mind, we will always believe that our circumstances determine how we feel. If “things” are going well, I’m happy, otherwise I’m not.
The ego strips meaning from every encounter and replaces it with judgment.
Instead, we can choose against the ego mind and opt for the mind of presence (love). This is what Frankl did in the concentration camps, and it leads to what A Course in Miracles describes as “a deep peace and tremendous release”.
