When Wisdom Speaks
Too often I’ve not been able to hear wisdom because I was too busy proving my point.
There’s a very powerful line in A Course in Miracles that says “Do you prefer that you be right or happy?”
When I argue, clearly I want to be right. Unfortunately I don’t realize it’s at the expense of wisdom. It’s at the expense of happiness.
But not just when I argue.
Anytime I feel that I’m being treated unfairly – whether or not it’s factually true – and whenever my emotions are lacking in joy, I can be certain that I’m not hearing the voice of wisdom. I’m instead listening to the “raucous shrieks” of the ego.
The still, small voice for wisdom gently counsels us to pay attention to our thoughts. And when those thoughts are not aligned with peace, we can make a different choice and experience a completely different outcome.
